5 New Year’s Resolutions That Make Life More Fun!
I looked up “Typical New Year’s Resolutions” online and I found a list of the Top 10 Commonly Broken New Year’s Resolutions, published by Time Magazine. Here’s the list:
-Lose Weight and Get Fit
-Learn Something New
-Eat Healthier and Diet
-Get Out of Debt and Save Money
-Spend More Time with Family
-Travel to New Places
-Be Less Stressed
New Year’s resolutions have always been attached to a goal – challenging to attain, and requiring a significant amount of discipline and/or intention. Often, these plans are unsustainable because they require a forced change in behavior – one that, up until now, has not been natural.
How about looking at resolutions a little differently this year and creating a plan that is not all-or-nothing, but rather provides a guide that is intended on making life a little more fun? Here’s a Frame of Mind list that you may want to print and hang on your fridge as a daily reminder:
1. Keep it simple.
All of it. Your decisions, your words, your environment. Get rid of things that bog you down and take up physical and mental space. Eliminate relationships that create stress and drama. Reduce the number of obligations you have and the commitments that drain your energy. Cut down on anything you experience in excess.
2. Focus on what you want.
What do you want? Do you even know? What kind of relationship do you want? What kind of business do you want to build? What kind of leader do you want to be? What do you want to teach your kids? How do you want your body to feel? When you keep your mind peeled on what you want, it becomes a whole lot easier to take actions that lead to your desires. Keep asking yourself, “what do I want?”
3. Find things that are good and right.
Make a decision to pay attention to all of the things in your world that are good and right – your hot shower, your hot and delicious coffee, the sunshine, your best friend, your kind neighbor, the awesome parking spot, the great deal on a pair of shoes, etc. There are so many things in the world that are good and right – find them and spend a moment or two appreciating them. They will make your life a whole lot more fun!
4. Laugh a little.
There is plenty to laugh about and enjoy – a Facebook post, your child’s funny behavior, a good show, an inside joke between you and your partner – you just need to look for it. Make it your mission to find things to laugh about. The more you look for it, the more you will find it. Start with a smile. I hear it’s infectious!
5. Love a lot.
Who do you love? Show them! Tell them they’re awesome. Share what you appreciate about them. You will witness your loved ones shine as a result, and as an added bonus, you may just receive a little love in return. Loving others is the best way to create personal alignment for yourself. It feels awesome to be loving – try it on for size!
This is a list of New Year’s resolutions that is designed to make your life a little more fun. But here’s another way to say it…
Lighten up, loosen up, and live it up!
